Mendon Motorcycle Crash

This blog has recently written about what seems to be an uptick in serious motorcycle accidents in Massachusetts. According to the telegram.com, a Hopedale, MA man was seriously injured in an accident at approximately 7:15 on Wedneday night following a collision with a truck.

Richard C. Johnson of 193 S. Main St., Hopedale, was riding a 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and David T. Weatherbee of 30 Spring St., Milford, was driving a 2011 Ford F150 truck.

Mr. Johnson was taken by Life Flight to UMass Memorial Medical Center — University Campus in Worcester. The medical helicopter landed at the Myriad Ballroom landing pad. Information on Mr. Johnson’s injuries was not available Thursday.

Both vehicles sustained damage and were towed.

Lack of protection often puts a motorcycle rider in a vulnerable position increasing the chances for serious injury. While sometimes people assume these accidents are the result of irresponsible riding, that it is not always the case and often can result from distracted drivers, texting while driving, illegal lane changes, failure to yield, or lack of attention to road conditions to name a few.

Sometimes, accidents will require the assistance of a trained accident re-constructionist who can review the evidence to determine the likely cause or contributing factors of an accident. If you’ve been in an accident it is wise to take a few relatively easy steps to preserve potentially crucial evidence in the event a claim is filed. These include:

1. Taking photographs of the accident scene and the damaged motorcycle or vehicle.

2. Get insurance information and contact information for other driver and of potential witnesses.

3. File a report with the Police and RMV.

4. Contact an attorney who handles motorcycle accidents and motor vehicle accidents.

If you’ve been injured in a motorcycle or motor vehicle accident, you may be able to recover for your injuries. Medical bills from accidents can easily exceed $10,000 and may even reach hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the extent of the injuries and treatment required. Sometimes, people may suffer lost wages if they are forced to stay out of work due to an injury and in some cases people may be unable to return to their previous occupation, which may result in serious economic damages and financial harm. In certain cases, if someone has sustained injuries and cannot return to their trade or occupation, the use of an economist may be required to assist in evaluating the scope of any lost future earnings, which can be substantial.
