Motorcyclist Killed in Dartmouth Crash

Motorcyclist Killed in Dartmouth Crash It’s no secret that motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to potentially serious injuries or even death from accidents on our roads and highways even when they wear helmets. Motorcyclists share the road with cars, SUVs and tractor trailer trucks and when an accident happens, there is little to protect a motorcyclists from potentially catastrophic injuries. Just this past Sunday, September 15th, a motorcyclists was killed in a crash with a vehicle in Dartmouth. Police have identified the motorcyclist who died in Sunday’s crash on Bakerville Road as Peter Brehaut, 25, of Dartmouth. Brehaut was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, police said. On Sunday, around 3:30 p.m., Dartmouth police officers and other emergency personnel, responded to the 100 block of Bakerville Road to investigate a crash where a motorcycle crashed with a vehicle. Brehaut’s passenger, a 24-year-old Westport woman, was transported by med flight to Rhode Island Hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. The operator of the motor vehicle, a 54 year old Fairhaven woman, suffered minor injuries, police said. At the time of the crash, Brehaut and his female passenger were wearing helmets, police said. The crash is currently under investigation by the Dartmouth Police Department with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team. Many factors such as excessive speed, sleepiness, carelessness or distraction from cell phone use or texting while driving can contribute to losing control of a vehicle. Additionally, a driver under the influence of alcohol or other substances can lead to serious accidents. The attorneys at Curran & Desharnais, P.C. hope for your safety.
