Wilmington head-on crash leaves one dead, two injured

Wilmington, MA

One person died Sunday evening in a head-on collision on Route 125 in Wilmington, near North Reading, State Police said.

Firefighters from Wilmington and Andover arrived at the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m. to find one person dead in the two-car crash, State Police said in a statement. Two others were taken by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital with unknown injuries.

Route 125 was closed after the accident while authorities removed the injured from the vehicles, gathered evidence, and removed debris from the roadway. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Many factors such as excessive speed, sleepiness, carelessness or distraction from cell phone use or texting while driving can contribute to losing control of a vehicle. Additionally, a driver under the influence of alcohol or other substances can lead to serious accidents.
