Mansfield Dog Attack

Mansfield, MA

A dog that had been ordered euthanized Wednesday by Mansfield selectmen after the dog bit a 6-year-old boy in January attacked a teenage girl Saturday, according to Mansfield Police. The 16-year-old girl was taken to Hasboro Children’s Hospital in Providence after she was bitten by a 3-year-old pointer-hound mix. Police did not identify the girl and her condition was unknown. The boy who was bitten in January needed more than 400 stitches.

A dog bite or other animal attack can cause serious and log lasting injuries, including scarring and disfigurement, secondary infection, emotional distress and psychological damage. These injuries can be even more severe when a child is the victim.

Recently, this office settled a dog bite case where an 11 year old girl was bit in the face in an unprovoked dog attack. The girl needed stitches to repair a severe wound to her upper lip which left her with a permanent scar. This office was ultimately able to obtain the full amount of the insurance policy that was available under the dog owner’s homeowner’s insurance policy.
